The government's own medicine store. Not a brand.
Jan Aushadhi (Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana) is a Government of India scheme. It sells generic medicines and everyday health products under its own label, with the same active ingredient as the brands, at a fraction of the price.
- Made by approved suppliersFactories must be WHO-GMP certified.
- Tested before saleEvery batch goes to an NABL-accredited lab, the government says.
- Sold at Kendras21,583 stores across India. There's no official online store.
- ₹66You pay less₹66 instead of ₹544 for the same 2% salicylic acid face wash, 60 ml each.
Why the price gap? Brands charge for the name, ads and margins on top of the same salt. Jan Aushadhi sells the salt under the government's label. SameSalt is independent: we don't earn anything when you buy Jan Aushadhi. Is it safe? See the lab tests →

Who we are
SameSalt is an independent website that compares Jan Aushadhi medicines with branded products. For anything about your data, email buildwithhardikk@gmail.com. We reply within 7 days.
What we collect
- Your pincode stays in your browser, so the site remembers it next time. Only its first 3 digits are ever sent to us (see below). Clear it any time by clearing this site's data.
- Searches and requests. Search runs in your browser. To learn what to add next, PostHog records the words you searched for, products you ask us to compare, and whether you said a Kendra had a product in stock. With those we keep only the first 3 digits of your pincode (your rough area), never the full pincode. Don't type personal details into search or requests.
- Anonymous usage stats. Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count page views and loading speed without cookies. PostHog records which pages and buttons are used (for example "Get on Amazon" or "Find a Kendra"), plus device type and an approximate location from your IP address. It uses a random ID kept in your browser. We never attach a name, email or phone number to it. PostHog may also save an anonymous replay of how the page was used (taps, scrolls and page changes) so we can find what's confusing. Anything typed into a box is hidden in those replays.
Other websites
Product photos load from the brands' own websites, and fonts load from Google Fonts, so those servers see your IP address. When you tap a shop link (Amazon, PharmEasy and others), that shop may set its own cookies so it can credit us for a sale. Their privacy policies apply there. If you send a tip, your UPI app, Buy Me a Coffee or Razorpay shows us the name and payment ID attached to that payment, as with any transfer. We use it only for our accounts. Shops tell us which products were bought through our links so they can pay us, but never who bought them: no names, addresses or contact details.
What we never do
- Sell or share your data with anyone.
- Show ads that track you across sites.
- Ask for health details, prescriptions or contact details.
Your choices and rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we don't collect names or contact details, there is usually nothing tied to you. Email us and we'll check.
You can also turn off PostHog analytics on this device:

What Reddit says
Check it's genuine at the counter
- The pack shows the PMBJP logo and a PMBI drug code.
- The code and MRP match the official list.
- The store shows a Kendra code (PMBJK…).
- Ask for the Jan Aushadhi pack by drug code, since many Kendras also stock private brands.
- Ask for a bill, and pay no more than MRP. Complaints: 1800-180-8080.
What “same salt” means
Same salt same active ingredient and strength. Close same active, different strength or format. Similar use different formula for the same job.
Where prices come from
Jan Aushadhi prices are official MRPs. Brand prices are listed MRPs from brand stores and large pharmacies, checked 26 Oct 2026, and every one links to its source.
How we make money
Some “Buy” links may earn us a commission. That never changes the order or the savings, which are worked out the same way for every brand.
Not medical advice
Products marked Rx are prescription medicines. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before you start, stop or switch.
